1966 Chevrolet C30 Crew Cab
In May 2000 we took a little vacation and while cruising down I-64 in southern Illinois we pulled off the interstate in Mount Vernon to gas up the rental car. As we headed back to get on the freeway, I caught out of the corner of my eye something I had never seen in person before. A '66 crew cab. It was in the weeds and hadn't been licensed since 1994. It looked like it been used as a tow truck. And surprisingly it wasn't rusty! An October 2012 report from a fellow trucker who lives in the Mt Vernon area informs us that the lot is now vacant and the truck is long gone.
In the June 1998 issue of Classic Trucks Magazine there was a feature article on a restored '65 crew cab. The picture below is from that article. Apparently only two companies built the crew cab for Chevrolet: Orville Metal Specialty Company and the Crown Company. Crown produced 500 crew cabs a year for Ford, Chevrolet and GMC pickups. Approximately 100-125 were Chevrolets. I have no idea who made this jewel.

Wouldn't this be a fun project?
Here's a nice home-made 2-door crew cab that lives in Cedar City, Utah and is a member of the Great Mountain Chevy/GMC Truck Association.
